With the fast speed of urbanization and urban sprawl around the world, two modes of city appearance seem prevalent: “vertical city”, where residents live and work in high-rises, and “horizontal city”, where there is virtually no skyscrapers. Which one is more advantageous than the other has become a hot topic of discussion without a consensus till today. (定語從句、主語從句)

Although some downsides of a vertical city such as urban heat island effect, light pollution or over-crowdedness are well aware by those advocates who insist that vertical city is superior, they stick to this belief because high-rise buildings downtown can not only save space which characterizes majority of metropolis, but offer limitless convenience to city dwellers. Since these high building blocks, whether used for living or working, are sufficiently equipped with supporting facilities, such as banks, shopping malls, schools, restaurants which makes life expedient. Commuting time thus can be saved substantially and traffic and pollution problems caused by growing ownership of personal vehicles can be reduced to some extent. （讓步狀語從句、復合從句、定語從句、原因從句、插入語）

Those who assert horizontal city is more promising might argue that cities with sporadic buildings create a more natural living environment. More public spaces can be utilized to build parks, gardens, squares and even green zones. Residents can then relax and entertain themselves closer to the nature in their leisure time. Many issues resulted from a vertical city therefore can be lessened. （定語從句、賓語從句）

Personally I think it is unrealistic these days to only construct low-rise buildings in a city, especially in a major city where crowds of people flock into. Space restriction is another consideration when design a new city. For cities with long history, some traditional low buildings should be well preserved while skyscrapers are encouraged in the new development zones. （插入語、介賓獨立主格、并列句） (287 words)
