The line graph illustrates and predicts the change of vehicle numbers in England and Wales between 2000 and 2020,while the bar chart gives the information about the amount of CO2 emission by four different forms of transport over the same period.

There were nearly 20 million vehicles in England and Wales in 2000. Subsequently, the figure increased slightly to 50 million in the following fifteen years and is projected to experience a rapid upward trend to 60 million in 2020, three times the figure in 2000.

The bar chart shows four different sources of CO2 emission. Cars emitted the largest amount of carbon dioxide from 2000 to 2010,rising from 2.2 million tonnes to 2.7 million tonnes. This condition may continue until 2020 when an expected 3 million tonnes is reached. There was and will be a similar trend in the amount of CO2 emission of trucks from 0.6 in 2000 to 1.3 million tonnes in 2020,although the growth is less significant. The emission of vans rose to 0,7 million tonnes in 2010 and is planned to remain stable at this level in 2020.The emission of buses was and is likely to keep steady, at around 0.4 million tonnes.

Overall, England and Wales will see a growing number of vehicles in the future and cars still create the largest amount of CO2 emission.

It seems to be a common phenomenon in many countries that older people who tend to occupy jobs in their later years become rivals of young adults in the employment market. In fact, if no moderate measures taken, this problem will have some negative effects both on elders and youngsters.

On the older people side, once they have to compete with their young counterparts, they are likely to have a lower confidence of themselves,which poses a threat to their mental health. It is obvious that they are often lack of vigor as well as creativity and are thus at an disadvantage point in the competition with young adults.For example, some jobs, like designing, often require employees to work overtime and come up with more original ideas. Due to weak health conditions, elder people can not be fully dedicated to such kind of job, let alone some manual works. With time, they may feel worthless and knocked out by the society, which may impair their self-esteem and make them become passive in the life.

In terms of the negative influence on young people, they are unlikely to find decent jobs and this results in a rising unemployment. Energetic and clever as these young employees are, they are often short of job-related experiences and maturity as well as calm mind when dealing with dilemmas in the company. By contrast, those older man are prone to address issues with sophisticated skills. For example, they often know how to win the favor of their customers and how to promote sales with lower costs.All of these abilities enable them to remain invincible in the job market. The consequence is that large and excellent corporations are likely to hire those elder employees to keep the company running well and young people are excluded. The soaring unemployment rate results in unstable society.

In response to this issue, I believe that at first, to those older employees who have a strong desire to work in order to earn a living, the government can encourage companies or related agencies to provide some easy jobs to help older workers to build up confidence and maintain a basic living standard. With regard to the help for young adults, more job training is advised, which may stimulate workers to adapt to employment market voluntarily. As a result, these young people with practical skills may find jobs easier than before and obtain a sense of belonging to their country.

To sum up, I am convinced that older and young employees are both inclined to be badly impacted by the competition between each other, including lower self-esteem in elders and rising unemployment in young adults.Therefore, a balance between them should be given priority to by the government.
