詞匯量對托福閱讀究竟有多重要？

準考生在接觸一門考試前最愛問的問題是：老師我要是去參加這門考試至少要有多少單詞？可見考生們或多或少在潛意識中將單詞量作為衡量一門出國考試水平的核心標準或者說重要標準。那么單詞量在出國考試的閱讀部分到底占有多么重要的位置呢？

我們來看一道托福原題：

It should be obvious that cetaceans -whales, porpoises, and dolphins -are mammals. They breathe through lungs , not through gills, and give birth to live young.Their streamlined bodies,the presence of a fluke and blowhole can not disguise their affinities with land dwelling mammals.However,unlike the cases of sea otters and pinnipeds, it is not easy to envision what the first whales looked like.

Which of the following can be inferred from paragraph 1 about early sea otters?
A.it is not difficult to imagine what they looked like
B.there were great numbers of them.
C.they lived in the sea only.
D.they did not leave many fossil remains.

首先我們先假設(shè)你是一個普通高中生，也就是你的單詞量在4000左右，優(yōu)秀高中生的單詞量可能大約在不到5000，那么在這段以自然科學類為背景的文章中，有相當一部分的詞我們是不認識的，那我們能否做對題目呢？  以我們現(xiàn)有的能力，是通過語法基礎(chǔ)先提取出主干：Cetaceans -whales......their streamlined bodies...dwelling mammals.However,unlike the cases of sea otters....it is not easy to envision what the first whales looked like.

然后我們壓縮主干找出這段想表達的邏輯： cetaceans與sea otters這兩個東西的比較，比較的是什么呢， 首先請大家注意however,和unlike這種表示邏輯的詞，證明比較的這兩個東西是不同的，再看文中指出是cetaceans 是not easy to envision ....looked like，因此推斷出sea otters 是easy to envision, 換句話就是not difficult to envision， 初步判斷為A選項，那如果你知道vis這個詞根是看的意思，不難想象envision和imagine 應該是同義詞，更確定為A。OK,到此為止題目答完。 大家是否有些感悟？

因此單詞當然是閱讀部分中重要的一個環(huán)節(jié)，但是如果無法準確的抽離主干，我們就不可能打?qū)Υ祟}，即便單詞的意思你都了解。由此可見，語法也是非常重要甚至說更重要的一個方面。更多的講解，將會在后面一一呈現(xiàn)給大家。
