　　Some people think schools should only teach students academic subjects. Others think schools should also teach students how to distinguish between right and wrong. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Teach academic subjects
　　• Receive professional knowledge – continue further study – satisfy academic pursuit (gaina master’s degree or a doctor’s degree)
　　• Gain higher degrees – prepare for future career – find decent jobs – stand out from intense social competition

Distinguish between right and wrong

　　• Public facilities (e.g. public transport, healthcare, schools) – convenient
　　• Public facilities (e.g. parks and squares) – entertainment – release stress
　　• The government has limited budget from tax revenue. – Requiring the government to invest a large amount of money in art will increase its financial burden

Disagree (art)
　　• Appreciate art – pursue beauty and inner peace – stimulate imagination – release stress – enrich spiritual life
　　• Cultural heritage – boost the development of the art industry and tourism –gain profit

　　Some people think that distant learning has more advantages than schools, and schools will disappear from our lives. What is your view?

Advantages
　　• Convenient: 1) Employees are likely to study while working. 2) study at their own pace and cultivate the ability to study independently; 3) do not need to commute between home and school
　　• Create a free and quiet environment – will not be disturbed
　　• Diversify teaching methods through multimedia –provide audio and visual aids – engaging, vivid and attractive – stimulate students’ interest in learning

Disadvantages
　　• Not convenient for students to interact with teachers or classmates (e.g. raise questions, conduct group discussion)
　　• Be distracted – be addicted to the virtual world – overly rely on computers
　　• The Internet is filled with unreliable information without proofreading. VS Experienced teachers know how to select suitable materials based on students’ needs and levels.
　　• Computers are expensive to purchase and maintain.

　　Some people believe that job satisfaction is more important than job security. Others believe that people cannot always enjoy their jobs and that a permanent job is more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Job satisfaction

　　International community should act immediately to reduce all countries consumption of fuels such as gas and oil. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Agree
　　• The booming of economy and technology – burn fossil fuel (e.g. coal, oil, petrol = gas) – produce/ release/ discharge greenhouse gases – cause the greenhouse effect and global warming
　　• Non-renewable, finite – deficiency in fossil fuel in the long run – pose great threat to future generations and the sustainable development of the world

Disagree
　　• Sophisticated technology and equipment has been developed to exploit fossil fuels around the world. – more economical compared with new energy (e.g. solar, hydro and wind energy) – especially for developing countries
　　• Economic benefits –industrialisation and modernisation, especially in developing countries – boost the economy and create more job opportunities
