When speaking of a person who speaks another language, the first one that comes into my mind is Lisa, my foreign friend. She is in her forties and she is studying for a master’s degree in xx University. I met her accidentally when I was chatting with my friends in the cafeteria. She smiled to us, asking politely if she can sit with us. Surprisingly, she was speaking Chinese with quite good pronunciation. From that day on, I became her practicing partner. It was really an honor for me to have a chance to meet Lisa because she is always an approachable, easygoing and knowledgeable person. She provided me with quite valuable experience and practical skills in mastering a foreign language. Every time when I had trouble in speaking English, no matter how busy she was, she was always patient to answer my questions and share her Chinese learning experience with me to help me get out of troubles, and hard times as well. What I really admire most is her progressive attitude toward learning. She never gives up learning and practicing with me whenever she had a chance. Of course, she did a lot of listening and reading practice by her own at the same time. Take her Chinese learning progress as an example, now she can speak fluent Chinese, but she is never satisfied with this. She is on the way to learning ancient Chinese and even some poems. According to what she said, life is not a rehearsal and never comes twice. If a person does not keep studying, his or her life will definitely become valueless.
