Making decisions by ourselves or asking for other’s help?

托福寫作主體論證段1：

Making decisions by ourselves can provide us with precious opportunities to achieve independence. Let’s take into account this scenario: if we are dealing with certain questions, what first comes to our mind is to ask others for help; then we will be reluctant to think independently or to utilize our own wisdom to cope with the adversity, which will impede us from improving ourselves. With regard to these drawbacks, solving problems by ourselves manifests its significance.  My view can be exemplified by a research conducted by my university: the researchers drafted a questionnaire, in which people choose what is the underlying reason of their success and achievement. The result  indicates that 87% of the informants voted for “independent thinking”, indicating that thinking independently plays an irreplaceable role in our life. This figure further testifies to the importance of making decisions on our own. (141)

托福寫作主體論證段2：

Listening to others advice may lead to a passive situation, since we may make improper decisions and thus do harm to ourselves, or even to certain people related to the situation. There is a famous saying in China” the most suitable decision is the best decision,”  so asking for others’ advice is simply not a wise way to make serious decision. Here is a case in point. Park Geun-hye is the current president of South Korea. However, she trusted the person from a mysterious cult simply because this person is her “bestie”. In this way, once this scandal was exposed, the whole country went angry, because the president should shoulder the responsibility of making important decision by herself and the most eligible person. Now, she is in a passive situation and nothing seems to ameliorate it.  As we can see from this case, listening to others means we risk being misled by others. So, always relying on ourselves is the best choice without doubt. (165)
