Human activities have negative effects on plants and animal species. Some people think it is too late to do anything about this problem. Other people believe that effective measures can be taken to improve this situation. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Over the past several decades, there has been more focus on environmental issues than ever.  It has already been widely accepted that human activities have exerted on plants and animals in a negative manner; while some people believe that all avenues have been exhausted and hence nothing can be done to alter the current situation, others disagree and continue to explore and innovate possible alternative solutions.  This essay will evaluate both sides of the argument and express my personal view on this topic.

The negative contributions of human behavior to our planet have been professionally examined by environmental experts: one of the main conclusions drawn from the studies are activities such as over-farming, poaching and industrialization have resulted in a number of devastating and irreversible damages.  For instance, the enormous extent of destructions in which deforestation and desertification have created: namely the loss of natural habitats, global warning, and extinction of species are not something that can be resolved within a short space of time.

Despite the sluggish progress, it is not to say one can simply overlook every small attempt that we make, and the current situation would simply continue to deteriorate if no emphasis has been made. Potential short-term solutions should be explored, for example, the general public could boycott the purchase of any animal-based products (the most prominent examples include leather and ivory); and it is necessary for the Government to step up and take action by raising public awareness, by promoting energy-saving strategies, as well as investments on making the public transport more accessible and environmentally friendly.

From a personal point of view, I believe that if all the measures are taken properly and rendered effective, there is hope on turning the situation around.
